Simon Rowley
- A History of the County of Essex Volume 5 says that the fire station, adjoining the Town Hall, was opened in 1894 and in 1897-8 the council bought a steam fire engine. Kelly's Directory 1886 mentioned a volunteer fire brigade at Barking.
